GTE VR

In 1996, Nortel's Virtual Reality Team asked me to create a full-screen opening animation for a VR CD-ROM they were making. Double speed CD drives were still the cutting edge thing, so I cheated, designing it in letterbox format and rendering it at only 10 frames per second, hoping to reduce the data rate to something the hardware could handle.

I animated it in Animation:Master version 4, and added the lighning flashes by hand in Strata MediaPaint. I did the sound design, in Adobe Premiere, by piecing together single notes and sounds from our stock music library.

After it was all done, I re-rendered the animation at 30fps and found that it really looked better at 10. It's sort of an animé look I think.
